I came across an article in my reader called 49 Beautiful Catalog and Booklet Designs Inspiration. I clicked on it because as you all know I am always fascinated by new and interesting printing ideas and techniques. So check it out. The one I liked the best is Beautiful trash. You can click on the brochure and it will bring you to a site were you can see all of the pages. This one caught my eye because of the die cutting on the front. I liked how you could see the image of trash through it. The next one I liked was Beyond Riser. The way it is layed out is cool. It has a Mock-book Fold. Very cool!

So I came across this really great article in my google reader. Its all about folding and pagelayout and how much one is dependent on the other. If you have not set up your digital file correctly the final printed piece will not look right. Very often this is the place were designers fall short and it is us the Mechanics of the deign industry who actually come in and save the day. All of this takes place in the prepress room or in todays world the preflight department. These two department were individual just a few years ago but they are quickly becoming one and the same. So we would open the customer file check the folding style they had chosen and measure the document for correct panel sizes. 9 times out of 10 they are incorrect. It is our job to make adjustments to the file before it goes to plate. Check out the web site and watch the video folding basics. It is really cool. This woman has created software that you would use with InDesign and you could open an existing file and apply the folding template to it and it shows where the folds should be. Awesome!
